How Pakistani freelancers can accept Stripe and PayPal

Pakistani freelancers usually cannot open local Stripe or PayPal receiving accounts. See what is blocked, how a UK company can help you apply, and how to enquire at TheWing.pk.

Stripe and PayPal are the buttons many overseas clients already use. If you freelance from Islamabad, Rawalpindi or elsewhere in Pakistan, you generally cannot open a normal local account that charges cards on Stripe or receives client payouts on PayPal. That is why founders look for a legal route rather than borrowing someone else's login.

This guide explains what is blocked and what incorporation can and cannot do. A UK company alone does not make anyone eligible for Stripe or PayPal.

Why do local accounts fall short?

Stripe publishes a list of countries and regions where a business can use its payments product. Freelancers who try to onboard with only a Pakistani CNIC and a Pakistani bank account commonly cannot complete that process. Pakistan does appear in some of Stripe's cross-border payout material as a place money can be sent to. That is not the same as running your own Stripe Checkout for clients.

PayPal's country coverage likewise does not give residents of Pakistan a full account that receives client payments and withdraws them in the usual way. Check its current country coverage directly rather than relying on a workaround.

Buying a ready-made foreign Stripe or PayPal account, or using a friend's login, breaks those companies' terms and can freeze the money you are trying to collect. It is not a safe plan.

Can a UK company help you apply?

A UK private limited company may be part of a business structure, but incorporation does not by itself establish eligibility for Stripe or PayPal and never guarantees approval. Each provider sets its own country, residency, director and beneficial-owner, address, identity-verification, bank and business requirements. These can change. Before applying, check Stripe's current requirements directly at stripe.com/global and PayPal's at paypal.com/pk, linked below, and confirm the rules for your circumstances with each provider.

Companies House guidance covers incorporation only, not payment-provider eligibility. Directors do not have to live in the UK, but the company must have a UK registered office. You need at least one director aged 16 or over and must identify people with significant control, including anyone with more than 25 percent of shares or voting rights. Directors must verify their identity and use a personal code when registering. Online registration costs £100; a postal IN01 application costs £124.

After incorporation you still need a business bank account that those platforms will accept, plus ongoing UK filings. Every UK company files accounts and a corporation tax return. If taxable turnover later passes the HMRC VAT threshold, the company must register for VAT.

What should you do in the meantime?

Keep collecting through channels that already work from Pakistan, such as a client sending via Wise to your Pakistani IBAN, Payoneer for marketplace payouts, or a bank's foreign-currency or freelancer account. Pair that with FBR filing so inbound transfers have a clean tax story.

If you want the UK route handled properly, TheWing.pk works with our UK partner firm AccoTax on company formation, a UK registered office, VAT and year-end accounts. You can run the company from Pakistan and meet clients from our floor at Central Mall, 2nd Floor, GT Road, DHA Phase 2, Islamabad, next to Giga Mall.

Hot desks here are PKR 31,800 a month, or PKR 1,750 for a day pass, with dual-ISP fibre and generator backup so calls do not drop during load-shedding. Dedicated desks are PKR 36,400 a month and include a complimentary 30-minute tax consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a UK company automatically get you Stripe?

No. Incorporation alone establishes neither eligibility nor approval for Stripe or PayPal. Each provider decides independently under its current requirements.

Do I have to move to the UK?

Not to incorporate: Companies House allows non-resident directors with a UK registered office. Stripe and PayPal set separate residency requirements; check each provider directly.

Can I see the workspace first?

Yes. Book a free tour; your first day on the floor is on us. Enquire about UK setup at the same visit if you want AccoTax to take the next step.
